The CEC Health Care Community Mental Health Promotion and Support (COMHPS) teams provide community engagement, mental health wellness promotion, individual screenings for mental health conditions, brief counseling, and referral to licensed mental health professionals. The COMHPS Program aims to support New Yorkers with subclinical mental health needs and establish, maintain, and improve individual and community mental health and wellness. The program offers support through tabling events, by conducting trainings and groups, and through individual contact both in-person and via phone. They also assess social needs and refer to various resources, such as food pantries, community support, and housing instability if needed.

COMHPS assesses individuals through a mental health wellness, cultural formation interview, and social needs screener. Through this screener, we can initiate a behavioral health referral based on the criteria in the screener. This criteria includes questions on how an individual has been feeling over the past 2 weeks. Appointments not required. First come first served.

The Charles Evans Center (CEC) Community Mental Heath Promotion & Support team was established by the NYS Office of Mental Health to improve, enhance and maintain community mental health wellness. COMHPS teams provide extensive outreach within the community, focusing on youth, young adults, families, special populations, and community organizations. Supporting communities, The Charles Evans Center's COMHPS team assists people in meeting the unique challenges they face and cope with in their daily life. Promotion & Support team members are equipped with knowledge regarding the communities throughout Nassau County, and assist in developing links to help community members connect with the resources that they need.
