News Literacy in the Digital Age, presented by Janis Schachter

News Literacy in the Digital Age, presented by Janis Schachter In-Person

With its unprecedented access to information, the digital age is a blessing and a curse. Never before have people had so much information at their fingertips. But information overload can be overwhelming, even paralyzing. How do we zero in on the information we need to effectively and responsibly function as citizens in a democracy? What is reliable, and what should not be trusted? Join Janis Schachter for a discussion of strategies for overcoming the challenges we face in the digital age.

Janis Schachter is a former journalist-turned social studies teacher. She started a news literacy program at Northport High School through the Center for News Literacy at Stony Brook University. She was the New York State Council for the Social Studies distinguished educator in 2020, and in 2021 was named a silver laureate by the international organization Global Youth and News Media for her work in news literacy.
